The author presents an endevour to comprehend the culture of Russian as a foreign language on the ecological angle - as an integral part of the surrounding polylingual speech environment. An ecological approach to the culture of the verbal multimodal sphere of communication implies commitment to national linguistic traditions, fostering an effective love for the past, present and future of the Russian language. The article actualizes the topic of linguistic ecology, in which a culture of thinking and communicative speech behavior in a polylingual environment arises, fostering a linguistic taste, protecting, enriching and improving the literary language and speech aesthetics. Studying modern active processes leading to democratization and liberalization of the Russian language, the author highlights the influence of the Internet and media language styles as key trendsetters of modern rhetorical trends, foreign borrowings and the expanding detabooing of abusive language patterns. Concluding that bridging communication gaps is the responsibility of linguistic ecologists, the author gives a brief thesaurus of linguo-ecological terms that show the creative nature of communication. The article also accentuates that the ecology of language and the ecology of culture are becoming the advanced and central national challenges of our time. Keywords: ecological aspect, polylingual speech environment, linguistic ecology, communication gaps, linguistic taste, speech aesthetics, state mission of our tim

The vibrant dynamics of the educational realm are interfused by polylingual and polycultural flows and it is important to define and model new competencies in       the opening decades of the third millennium. This article offers a survey of key competencies united by the concept of ”new  literacy”,  or a form of post literacy    that is designed to help students succeed in the information culture and education sphere of the twenty-first century. These include training in: educational and cognitive competence, laying the groundwork for further education with the help of foreign languages; existential competence, which content are Soft Skills vs. Hard Skills; competence of social interaction; intercultural competence; information ethics, modeling a certain image of behavior in online communication; and information literacy. Media education is viewed as a tool for the formation of general cultural competence. This article accentuates the key function of foreign language in modeling the key skills of the twenty-first century, where the language is positioned as a mandate into other cultures and other pictures of life. Teaching foreign languages draws on the competence-based approach, emphasizing digital citizenship, and increasing the share of autonomous learning activities in the paradigm of mobility, interactivity and edutainment. Keywords: information culture and education, multimodal media and information literacy, teacher’s mission, transdisciplinarit

Theoretical analysis of quantum key distribution systems when integrated with a DWDM optical transport network

A theoretical research and numerical simulation of the noise influence caused by spontaneous Raman scattering, four-wave mixing, and linear channel crosstalk on the performance of QKD systems was conducted. Three types of QKD systems were considered: coherent one-way (COW) QKD protocol, subcarrier-wave (SCW) QKD system, and continuous-variable (CV) QKD integrated with classical DWDM channels. We calculate the secure key generation rate for the systems mentioned addressing different channel allocation schemes (i.e., configurations). A uniform DWDM grid is considered with quantum channel located in C-band and O-band (at 1310 nm) of a telecommunication window. The systems' performance is analyzed in terms of the maximal achievable distance values. Configurations for the further analysis and investigation are chosen optimally, i.e., their maximal achievable distances are the best

Abstractβ€” Designing products to match the processes and supply chains, processes to match product platforms and supply chains, and supply chains to match the product platforms and process are they ingredients in today's fast developing markets. In the course of the study the following results were achieved: assessment of trends in the development of wine production from the supply chain management retrospective at the national and international levels was done. Market of grape wine, wine products, as well as champagnes and sparkling wines in the Russian Federation were studied through the supply chain management for wine production process from supplier to costumer. The structure of the wine sales in Russia by types was evaluated and positive and negative tendencies in development of modern Russian winemaking were formed. Results showed that supply chain system in wine industry of Russia can overcome the difficulties of import and export in this country. In conclusion, a specific list of measures that need to be implemented at the state level to ensure a sustainable trend in the development of the domestic wine industry was defined

The study was carried out from the standpoint of the concept of human development. The results of the analysis of the dynamics of the stock of human capital in the territories of the Yenisei Siberia macroregion at the regional and subregional levels, calculated on the basis of official statistical information using non-linear index measurements, are presented, as well as significant factors in the formation of this dynamics, such as demography, employment, quality of life from the standpoint of self-esteem investment-potential groups of the population, innovative activity of organizations in the real sector of the economy. The horizons and necessary conditions for the development of the macroregion in the current socio-economic context are determined, based on the investment approach to the formation of the human capital of the macroregio

Fungus Metarhizium robertsii and neurotoxic insecticide affect gut immunity and microbiota in Colorado potato beetles

Fungal infections and toxicoses caused by insecticides may alter microbial communities and immune responses in the insect gut. We investigated the effects of Metarhizium robertsii fungus and avermectins on the midgut physiology of Colorado potato beetle larvae. We analyzed changes in the bacterial community, immunity- and stress-related gene expression, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and detoxification enzyme activity in response to topical infection with the M. robertsii fungus, oral administration of avermectins, and a combination of the two treatments. Avermectin treatment led to a reduction in microbiota diversity and an enhancement in the abundance of enterobacteria, and these changes were followed by the downregulation of Stat and Hsp90, upregulation of transcription factors for the Toll and IMD pathways and activation of detoxification enzymes. Fungal infection also led to a decrease in microbiota diversity, although the changes in community structure were not significant, except for the enhancement of Serratia. Fungal infection decreased the production of ROS but did not affect the gene expression of the immune pathways. In the combined treatment, fungal infection inhibited the activation of detoxification enzymes and prevented the downregulation of the JAK-STAT pathway caused by avermectins. The results of this study suggest that fungal infection modulates physiological responses to avermectins and that fungal infection may increase avermectin toxicosis by blocking detoxification enzymes in the gut

Assessment of impacts and potential mitigation for icebreaking vessels transiting pupping areas of an ice-breeding seal

Icebreaker operations in the Arctic and other areas are increasing rapidly to support new industrial activities and shipping routes, but the impact on pinnipeds in these habitats is poorly explored. We present the first quantitative study of icebreakers transiting ice-breeding habitat of a phocid seal and recommendations for mitigation. Impacts were recorded from the vessel bridge during seven ice seasons 2006–2013, for Caspian seals (Pusa caspica) breeding on the winter ice-field of the Caspian Sea. Impacts included displacement and separation of mothers and pups, breakage of birth or nursery sites and vessel-seal collisions. The flight distance of mothers with pups ahead was < 100 m, but measurable disturbance occurred at distances exceeding 200 m. Separation distances of pups from mothers were greatest for seals < 10 m to the side of the vessel, and declined with increasing distance from the vessel. The relative risk of separation by β‰₯ 20 m was greatest for distances < 50 m from the vessel path. Seals on flat ice were more likely to be separated or displaced by β‰₯ 20 m than seals in an ice rubble field. The relative risk of vessel collisions with mothers or pups was significantly greater at night when breaking new channels (12.6 times), with vessel speeds β‰₯ 4 kn (7.8 times). A mitigation hierarchy is recommended for the Caspian Sea which could be applied to Arctic pinnipeds, including reducing icebreaker transits during critical periods, and using data from aerial surveys to plan routes to minimise encounters with seals. Where pre-emptive avoidance is not possible, recommendations include maintaining a safe separation from breeding seals at least 50 m beyond the distance at which measurable disturbance occurs, speed limits, use of thermal imaging at night, dedicated on-board Seal Observers, and training of vessel officers to take effective reactive measures
